I wrote this in my tiny apartment in LA before moving away to Mexico. It was written right in the midst of a rough breakup, just weeks after a 7-year relationship had ended. I felt like I had lost control of my whole life. And I was trying to 'hold' on in any way I could but things just seemed to keep slipping away. That's where the hook lyrics were inspired, and the actual title of the song as well. But the verse has this sense of freedom to it. It feels triumphant to me. Letting go of anger in order to be able to fly free from the past. And to just keep on moving forward and chasing your dreams, to keep living for love and trusting in it.
